HISTORY
In response to a 1992 study commissioned by the City of San Francisco of homeless youth in the Haight Ashbury District, which demonstrated both a high incidence of health and psychological problems as well as difficulty accessing services among these young people, services targeting homeless youth in the Haight Ashbury were formed. Various providers have executed interventions to work with this population throughout the years. Although Homeless Youth Alliance (HYA) is a rather new program, HYA board members, volunteers and staff have been involved both the development and delivery of supportive services for youth and young adults living on the streets in the Haight since 1997.
