There are more than 5,000 homeless youth on the streets of San Francisco. Almost half are LGBT. More than half struggle with mental health issues. Many come from histories of abuse, addiction and neglect.
Help us be the home they never had.
Go Big or Stay Homeless is the Capital Campaign for Homeless Youth Alliance. We’re a nonprofit that’s been serving homeless runaways in San Francisco’s Haight Ashbury since 1992.
In 2014, after 12 years of running a drop-in center on Haight Street, HYA lost its lease. Without an indoor program site, we’ve taken our work outdoors. Our services—therapy, counseling, case management, medical care—are now entirely street-based. We’re still reaching hundreds of homeless kids weekly, but the youth of the Haight deserve better.
They’ve lost enough. They deserve to once again have a safe, secure indoor refuge. They deserve a home.
The goal of our Go Big or Stay Homeless Campaign is to purchase a building in the Haight Ashbury. Our goal is to restore what the homeless kids of the Haight lost when we lost our lease: a welcoming indoor refuge, where they can get a hot meal, a shower, clean clothes, and where they can see a doctor, a therapist, and a case manager, all under one roof. We’ll be a jumping-off point for youth to get off the streets, into recovery, and living fulfilling lives.
The Haight’s homeless youth need a safe place that won’t go away. You can help us provide what they’ve never had: a lifeline they can count on. Please donate to Go Big or Stay Homeless today!

Homeless Youth Alliance can only continue to do its vital work with the support of the community and of people and organizations that care about these kids’ futures. We are so grateful for the generosity of the dozens of foundations and individuals that have supported us over the years, but as we continue to grow, we must rely even more heavily on the generosity of compassionate individuals and organizations.
We welcome donations by individuals at any time, in any amount.

Any monetary donations will be put straight to work helping homeless youth. The following demonstrates some of the power your dollar holds:
$7 – Legal ID for one participant
$30 – 25 pairs of socks
$100 – One week of supplies for every group HYA offers
$250 – 60 pairs of clean underwear
$500 – 33 sleeping bags
$1,000 – One month of medical supplies
$5,000 – Four months of healthy, nutritious food
Many companies will provide matching gifts for donations made by employees. This is an excellent way to leverage your gift and double its impact. To see if your company participates in gift matching, contact your HR department or check this partial list: http://www.scef.us/companies_that_match.asp.
We gladly accept in-kind donations. Goods including clothing, food, hygiene supplies, dog food and other pet care supplies, sleeping bags, tents, tarps, blankets, office furniture and supplies, and clean needles and other medical supplies are gratefully accepted and are tax-deductible. Many companies will gladly make in-kind donations, so if you or someone you know works for a company that sells any of these goods, ask them if they would consider a donation.
*While Homeless Youth Alliance/Tides goal is to purchase a building to be used for a full scale drop-in center, if our goal is not met these funds may be used for general operations to support HYA’s mission of helping homeless youth build healthier lives. Fundraising for this campaign is ongoing – we have no intention of giving up.
