How you can Help
Community activities
Our major current community activity is our once-monthly Community Clean Up Crew on the last Friday of the month from 10:30am to 1pm. Staff, participants, and neighbors conduct cleanups of the front of Golden Gate Park. We also clean blocks on which our neighbor participants live.
If you find the homeless young people of the Haight to be alarming or frightening, participating in one or more Community Clean Up days will give you the opportunity to meet, talk with, and work alongside our participants in a cooperative and non-confrontational setting. Neighbors who have participated in the past universally report improved relations with the young people they worked with. We also see improvements in the attitudes of our participants toward their neighbors, particularly when we have a high neighbor turnout. Come help us in this exercise in mutual respect building.
To participate, call Mary Howe, program director on 415-565-1941 or just show up at the drop-in on the day. We provide all training, safety equipment, and cleaning supplies, however please wear footwear which covers the toes.
Volunteering
Several of our programs use volunteers, in particular needle exchange. To enquire about our current volunteer needs, please call Mary Howe, program director, at 415-565-1941.
Donations
We greatly welcome financial donations. All donations are tax deductible.
Please make checks payable to 'Tenderloin Health/Homeless Youth Alliance', and mail to:
P.O. Box 170427

We also take donations of hygiene supplies (unopened bottles / containers of shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, shaving cream) and new socks. These can be dropped off at 1696 Haight Street during our scheduled open hours.
